Three Sisters From Kicking Horse Coffee

Today we diving into another exciting coffee blend, Three Sisters From Kicking Horse Coffee.

Kicking Horse Coffee named their Three Sisters after the Three Sisters peaks just outside Banff National Park in Alberta. That's a neat bit of trivia since I've seen these peaks first hand a couple times as a kid

Kicking Horse describes their Three Sisters blend as smooth, savory and seductive. I call this blend of Indonesian, Central and South American beans, smooth, bold and intense, with deep rich flavors.

Let's back up a bit. In the picture to the left, you see the oily caramelization of this city + roast. In each phase of the process, ground, wet and from the cup, this coffee had the same aromas. Coffee with a hint of coca and sweet caramel.

I don't have much for tasting notes. From the cup this brew tasted like coffee, great coffee I might add. It's bold, as bold as the mountains it's named after, but it's also rich, smooth, sweet and delicious.

The mouthfeel was full bodied, yet at the same time creamy smooth, with a lingering syrupiness that could possibly stay on the palate all day if you don't wash it away.

Sure if you wish to dissect the flavors, you can separate out the nuances of chocolate and sweet caramel, but there's really no need to do that. Just do what I did, enjoy the rich full bodied Three Sisters From Kicking Horse Coffee, one cup at a time!

Eight O'Clock Coffee The Original

This sample of Eight O'Clock Coffee , "The Original", came right off the supermarket shelf the other day. It's a medium roast blend that included a large volume of broken and partial beans. Actually, I was surprised by the volume of broken beans as I poured each sample into the grinder. When the bag was opened, to the nose there were rich aromas of toast and coffee, while the pour-over aromas were a mix of cocoa and warm bread. I brewed and sampled four cups of The Original to be sure of my tasting notes. On the Eight O'Clock web site they list this coffee as "sweet, fruity and well balanced." Like most other coffee reviews that's not exactly what I found. In my samples there were semi-sweet flavors of toast, nuts and earth, with a hint of cocoa as the coffee cooled. I found the coffee clean and well balanced with a medium bodied, slightly dry mouth feel. Overall, The Original, from Eight O'Clock coffee brewed a flavorful rewarding cup
